American Top 40 PastBlast Redux, 6/30/84: Wang Chung, “Dance Hall Days”

Before I started this blog, I posted about songs from old AT40s on Facebook, January-July 2017. I’ll be moving them here over time. This entry has been edited somewhat from the original.

This was a big, big favorite at the time of this countdown; I always liked the video, too. Took me a good while to suss out that they were “cool on craze.”

“Dance Hall Days” was the second release from their debut album Points on the Curve; it did third-best in terms of peak position of their five Top 40 tunes (#19 here, reaching #16—they made the top 10 twice). In terms of popularity/recognition now it almost certainly trails only that song that includes the band’s name in the lyrics. Do 80s stations play anything other than those two now?
