American Top 40 PastBlast: The Top 100 of 1977, Part 1

Every year at this time, Premiere Networks present year-end countdowns from the Casey Kasem era. This year on the 70s side they’re featuring the Top 100 of 1977, with #100-51 being played this weekend.  Since this is one of the years I was tracking things, I can show how I wrote it up. Note that I had created my own logo for the show.

Really love that Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, Dean Friedman, and David Dundas are all present here. As you can see, I identified the record label for each act– I was keen on that sort of info in both 76 and 77, but gave it up pretty soon afterward.

Next weekend, you’ll see the Top 50 in this space!

  1. This is great, and pretty much the same thing I used to do back in the day. The first half of this countdown is the AT40 syndicated repeat for New Year’s weekend, but any affiliate carrying it is only going to get the Top 88. Premiere Radio Networks sent only the last three hours of the four-hour show; usually when they schedule a four-hour show, they send the first hour as optional audio for stations that want it. This time they didn’t. If they do the same thing next weekend, the show will pick up around #37.

    1. A couple of stations did play all four hours this weekend–I caught the first hour on KOKZ (Cedar Rapids/Waterloo) on Saturday morning (they started an hour earlier than normal, at 8am Central). I believe WTOJ (Watertown, NY) played the whole eight-hour show on Sunday, but the programming/production director there does some work for Premiere.
